The story of Treherne Care and Consultancy Ltd began in 1999 when the late Mrs Moya Treherne set out to make a difference in the lives of people with complex mental health needs. Starting with consultancy work, she partnered with Mental Health Law Solicitors to undertake assessments and prepare reports for Mental Health Review Tribunals.
At the same time, Moya opened the doors of nearby Tremora Cottage, offering adults with enduring mental health conditions and learning disabilities the chance to enjoy supported holidays in a welcoming and caring environment.
What truly inspired Moya was her belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to live a meaningful and independent life. Treherne Care was built on this principle, supporting people who had often spent many years in hospital settings and helping them successfully transition into community living, where they could thrive, grow, and achieve their goals.

From the very beginning, Moya’s philosophy was simple: care should be built around the individual, not the individual around the service. Long before person-centred care became a widely used term, Moya believed that support packages should be tailored to each person’s unique needs, strengths, and challenges. As we often say today, we don’t fit people into boxes, we build the box around the individual, no matter how uniquely shaped it may be.
Moya firmly believed that everyone, wherever possible, deserved the opportunity to live safely within their community and to continue their journey of rehabilitation and recovery. This commitment to providing personalised, community-based support remains at the heart of everything we do and continues to guide the growth and development of Treherne Care Group.
In the early 2000s, Moya established Tremora Cottage as a small registered residential home for up to three adults with complex mental health needs who were often considered difficult to place within traditional community settings. The service provided a safe, supportive environment where individuals could develop skills, independence, and confidence.
Building on the success of Tremora Cottage, Treherne Care Group expanded its services through the development of its Domiciliary Care and Supported Living provision. In 2005, we became registered as a Domiciliary Care service under the Care Standards Act 2000 and the Domiciliary Care Agencies (Wales) Regulations 2004. This enabled us to extend our specialist support to adults with complex mental health needs living in their own homes and supported accommodation, offering greater choice, independence, and opportunities for community inclusion.
In October 2018, Treherne Care Group successfully achieved re-registration with Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) under the Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016, covering both our Residential Care and Domiciliary Care services. This milestone reflected our ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred care and support across all areas of the organisation.
